Tre Vaselle & Assisi

May 4 - 5 - Tre Vaselle is the name of the hotel we are staying in. As I mentioned before, it is the most beautiful hotel with gorgeous views. The dinners here are really wonderful. The first night we had a wine tasting, which was okay, but really a sales pitch for the owner's wines. The hotel includes a winery and they also make olive oil. The olive oil is really tasty. We had a wonderful dinner - see previous post.

Next day we went to Assisi, really a charming hillside town. We walked around and saw the sights.

Mary is telling Jesus that St. Francis loves him more than St. Paul

For lunch Dad, Jessie and I found a Rick Steve's restaurant that I looked up that morning and had a great lunch on the terrace with a wonderful view. Dad had the chicken cacciatore and I had pasta with truffles that was a bit bitter for my taste. Jessie had fusilli pasta with Gorgonzola and walnuts. I liked hers best. It was rainy that day but cleared occasionally and we had a great day.

That night we were treated to a cooking demonstration: turkey salad in a parmesan cheese basket, and homemade pasta with a tomato sauce. Dinner that night at the hotel again and we had an equally wonderful dinner as the night before. I ordered the turkey salad in a Parmesan cheese basket that the chef had demonstrated, gnocchi with tomato and shrimp - yum - and salmon with potato's and eggplant.

Dinner that night was at the hotel, with the food that was prepared at the cooking demonstration on the menu. I did have the turkey salad in the parmesan cheese basket, but then ordered the salmon and risotto. It was delicious. Of course it ended with the wonderful ice cream bon bons covered in chocolate. As the waiter was fond of saying: "Why not?"
